Why SLow motion is powerful

When growing up as a kid we all dreamt of having the power to control time whether that be rewinding time, being teleported into the future or freezing time like in the action movies, with the advancement of technology we can realise part of that dream at our fingertips and better yet post it to the world. Slow motion can transform a scene to reveal hidden details that can't otherwise be seen, add a dramatic cinema vibe, inject extra beauty & elegance, and create a sense of surrealness given we are viewing the world in an unnatural way. Imagine the lady in red strolling in slow motion down the street lined with designer stores , capture the beautiful intricate steps of a butterfly fapping its wings to take flight, highlight the gracefulness of a lady whipping her hair out of the water in a perfect half circle motion.

In recent years Apple and Samsung have increased the technology behind their mobile phone's slow motion capabilities that can result in absolute amazing videos that almost makes you believe you have superpowers.

What is Slow Motion?

A video is a stack of pictures taken and played back in a really fast slideshow that looks like a video. Most standard videos you watch and record on your smartphone will be played back at 30 frames per second or in other words 30 photos per second.

Most smartphones can capture 240 frames per second meaning the video will be 8x slower than normal speed. The recent Samsung phones have super slow motion that captures 960 frames per second unlocking a new world of slow motion - to put this into perspective if you recorded for one second this would be stretched out into a 32 second video.

Locate Slow Motion on your Smartphone

Iphone: Open the camera app and from the selection menu scroll to the left until you see "slo mo".

Samsung: Open the camera app, then in the selection menu scroll to the right and select "more", here you will find both slow motion and super slow motion.
