Better Videos

A sea of videos floating all over social media showing the latest travel tips, how to photograph sharper pictures, and even cleaning videos that swells up in views, these top 5 video creating tips will help your content standout amongst the sea of reels.

Breathing

panning during a video recording while simultaneously moving is no easy task, the idea of overlooking the Verdon Gorge In France and slowly moving your video camera left to right while also side walking like a crab to add some moving motion in the video, yet what you want to avoid is having your video being jittery and having to reshoot but now another person is in the way during reshooting.

A special technique that will help for a smoother video is moving with your breathing. This means while panning move at the same rhythm you are breathing in and out. This is almost like a ballroom dancer moving in sync with the music for smoother movement. you will notice a great confidence in keeping the camera still as you now have a reference point to guide your movement.

Lightroom Presets

Colours are a powerful tool at evoking a variety of emotions through videos and photos, it makes sense to pick up this tool and use it for success. Overall you may have a main colour grading edit in your videos, yet adding some new videos presets can keep your overall content refreshing and exciting for viewers.

Presets are a multiple edits applied to a photo or video then saved for the same set of edits to be applied to future photos with one click of a button. Lightroom is perhaps the most popular editing software for presets and the software is tailored made for both professional and content creators, their also a mobile app for it which adds convenience.

The below video shows a variety of edits that completely changes the mood of the beach video.

Slow Motion

Slow motion can transform a scene to reveal hidden details that can't otherwise be seen, add a dramatic cinema vibe, inject extra beauty & elegance, and create a sense of surrealness given we are viewing the world in an unnatural way. As the elegant lady walks down the street she flicks her head back in slow motion to smile at the camera makes her appear more important and classy with the effect slow motion. There are very few effects than can greatly lift the overall quality of a video like slow motion can.

Before & After

Juxtaposition videos like a before and after comparison are super fun and relatable. The viewer could be disinterested in the content within the video but still react with excitement and anticipation. In the viewers mind they are calculating what the after picture will look like and compare how close they were. There is also a shock factor to see a before & after effect, the differences of the two comparisons quickly jumping from the before to after can register as excitement with the viewer. Other juxtaposition videos include a day & night comparison, or casual outfit vs dressy outfit. These videos tend to be appreciated by a wide audience.

Key Frames

I would suggest to say that majority of people are unfamiliar with the term key frames, yet they are responsible for the smooth movement in videography we take for granted. A key frame is essentially a starting point and an end point for a particular transition or action. For instance we set the video at 2x zoom when the video begins then add the variable where 5 seconds into the video the zoom will be a 1x. This means the video will slowly zoom out in the first 5 seconds creating a smooth cinema zoom out.

The video below takes the same slow motion video and adds key frames to illustrate the difference. Key frames were added for panning from left to right and zooming out. This video was created in Davinci Resolve, however there are some mobile apps that offer key frame editing if a mobile phone is your preferred editing device.

Thank you for your time and effort :)
